New Nightshifters: MikiX The Cat Vs. Momma’s Boy – “At Night”

April 8th, 2010

We’re happy to recognize the insane hustle that’s coming from the Nightshifters camp these days. In addition to releasing the free Bumble EP last week  (complete with dizzyingly weird and fantastic virtual reality video), today we get the one-two punch that is Mikix The Cat vs. Momma’s Boy -”At Night” EP on Juno Download. It’s a throw your hands in the air feel good kind of thing which takes portions of MikiX’s bass & rave influences and fits it into a Momma’s Boy type house framework.

While you’re at it, buy the fantastic mix that Momma’s Boy just did for Sunnybeach Happyslap Mardigras! It’s the biggest thing I’ve heard in a while.

The Count & Sinden “Strange Things (Melé Remix)”

April 5th, 2010

The Fader is giving away our new artist Melé’s remix of The Count & Sinden’s, “Strange Things.” If you’re unfamiliar this is a great introduction to his hybridized sound which the Fader describes as a mix of “sparkling UK funky and 21st century garage, with scraps of other kicky dancefloor styles like dubstep and bassline bleeding through.” Grab it here.

Natale Storm “Look Pon Me” Remix Contest

April 1st, 2010

The big news these days at Mixpak headquarters is the growing success of Sticky and Natalie Storm’s single “Look Pon Me.” In the UK, the Look Pon Me video has been added to the official playlist on MTV receiving over 35 plays in the last few weeks. That gives Natalie the distinction of being only the second Caribbean artist currently playlisted by MTV UK (maybe you’ve heard of the other…Rhianna?). Not bad exposure for a small label like Mixpak and, if anything, it speaks to how good this track is.

Anyhow, with all the success, we’ve had a number of folks ask about the “Look Pon Me” acapella and after talking with the lawyers and getting the green light, we’ve decided give you the chance to remix this UK-Funky-meets-Jamaica hit.

Rules:

1. Download the acapella.

2. Remix the song.

3. Name your remix Natalie Storm – Look Pon Me (with your remixer name) and then upload your remix to the Mixpak Sound Cloud drop box, adding “Look Pon Me Remix Contest” in the tags.
