Shy FX – Raver (B Traits Breaking Bad Remix)

February 26th, 2011

This song was released in December but screamed summer: it even had Brazilian carnival girls in the video! I shouldn’t be too hard on the song because the remixes of it are all stellar. The dubby Guinness Punch remix is one of the best things that Donaeo has ever done. This week the other remix package came out including the B. Traits offering, which takes the steel pan carnival ending of the original and extends it for over 4 minutes. It’s like a heightened flashback to standing near the Westway on August bank holiday weekend at Notting Hill Carnival.

You can get both EPs over at the Digital Soundboy.

Mixpak Interview Series: Schlachthofbronx

February 25th, 2011

Aside from spending hours of their time telling people how to pronounce and spell their name, Munich dance heads Schlachthofbronx have been mad busy in the last few months, putting together some of the heaviest bass you have heard. We asked one of the crew, Jakob, how they manage it, what’s coming up and what’s making them blow their homemade airhorns.

(Big thanks to Schlachthofbronx for taking the time out of their holiday to answer our questions!)

Meyhem Lauren ft. Action Bronson – Typhoon Rap

February 24th, 2011

An amazing new track (and video!) from two of my favourite rappers, Meyhem Lauren and Action Bronson from The Outdoorsmen. I don’t understand how these guys aren’t massive already, but at least they’re making waves. Support real artists, buy their mixtapes!

Tomb Crew – FIYT Night

February 24th, 2011

The latest release from Trouble and Bass is from London DJ’s and producers Tomb Crew. Hopping between funky, garage, rave, bassline and hip hop this 3 track EP is the 14th in the Heavy Bass Champion of the World Series.

FIYT Night is a track that really seems to be taking things from every genre that the UK has been a part of in the past 20 years. It’s as if they were just grabbing things like at the end of Supermarket Sweep.

Mixpak FM: Dexplicit

February 23rd, 2011

Mixpak FM 007 is brought to you by grime and bassline producer extraordinaire, Dexplicit. In his prolific last few years he has produced grime anthem ‘POW’, huge instrumentals like ‘Judas’‘Bulla Cake’ & of course ‘Forward’ (which not only smashed grime apart with ‘POW’, and apparently got voiced by Jay Z but was also banned from some clubs for being too hype (fact)). He also produced a hot remix of our track with Natalie Storm & Sticky.

Here is 50 minutes of grime & bassline nastiness, including some of his newest productions and big dubplates. POW!

You can go subscribe to Mixpak FM via iTunes, subscribe with an RSS reader from the Mixpak FM site or download this mix directly.

It’s Footsie Again

February 23rd, 2011

Footsie is back (sans D-Double unfortunately) with the Rastaman Pickney EP. He has has evidently been listening to his Trojan compilations lately as there is a big dub influence production-wise on RP: of the four tracks three are slow-burning instrumental bangers and really exhibit Footsie’s skill as a producer. The fourth, ‘Highgrade No Bush’ is available below for your delectation, as well as the DL link for the whole EP.
