Dre Skull on MTV Iggy

MTV Iggy look into the latest moves in the dancehall-rap love affair, and check in with Dre Skull in the process:

And while, like Mavado noted, there seems to be a lack of a support system within Jamaica for emerging artists and producers, he spoke of how American labels are more than willing to pick up the slack, saying, “I’ve spoken with many people within the major label system, and it’s amazing to me how many hardcore dancehall fans work within that system in positions of power (from A&Rs to heads of labels). That gives me hope that if things start to take off for even one dancehall artist on a wider scale, there will be many people with power who will cheer it on and give their support.” Dre Skull himself played that role when he suggested to Pusha T’s manager that he work with Popcaan, resulting in Pusha T’s Young Chop-produced single “Blocka” featuring Popcaan and Travi$ Scott.
