Help Support Bounce At SXSW

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

New Orleans Block Party

For the first time, the South By Southwest music conference is hosting an official showcase of classic bounce and the artists need financial support to help make this happen. Artists on the bill include Partners-N-Crime, DJ Jubilee, Katey Red, Big Freedia, Vockah Redu, Magnolia Shorty and Ms Tee.

As you may know, SXSW has booked its first-ever official showcase of
classic New Orleans bounce. The seven artists on the bill are all
straight-up originators of the sound, and few have gotten their just
due for their awesome contribution to New Orleans music. We need your
help getting them to Austin in March, and we have some kickass rewards
in store for generous helpers who believe in getting the music out
there.

Below is the link to our fundraising page. Please blog it, share it,
forward it, repost it and do all those social networking things people
do with it!

If you’ve ever been a fan of bounce music, please consider donating. There are some amazing rewards for the various levels of support. Please check out the details and support this.

2009 In Reggae And Dancehall

Vybz Kartel and Mavado

2009 is done. Mavado and Vybz Kartel are pals, Buju Banton is in jail, and Sting—billed as the greatest stageshow on earth—was underwhelming as all get out. How did we get here? Last year ended with fretting about the fact that reggae music was less and less Jamaican—Matisyahu being on top of the charts and such. This year ended in pretty much the same way. However, despite worries about the state of music—the Jamaica Gleaner spent pages of its December 27 issue questioning dancehall’s parties, professors and punny printers, wondering in print about what the future holds for reggae—and the widely circulated report of an eight-copy sale figure for Vybz Kartel’s Pon Di Gaza in its first week, it was also a banner year for dancehall on the world stage.

If you want a nice comprehensive look back at 2009 in the world of reggae and dancehall, look no further than Soundclash’s two part, year in review.

Sissy Nobby Lay Me Down Remixes

We’ve got one more release in 2009 and it’s a remix EP for Sissy Nobby’s track “Lay Me Down.” The “Lay Me Down” single will see proper release (with vinyl) in early 2010, but the remixes were so good, we couldn’t hold ‘em back any longer. We called in A1 Bassline, Bitch Ass Darius, DJ Sega, Kanji Kinetic, L-Vis 1990 and Renaissance Man and they’ve each given a strong effort.

The release date is next Tuesday, December 22nd.

Big up Kissy Sellout for dropping four Mixpak tracks during his BBC Radio 1 show today! Likewise, big respect to Sinden for including the first Mixpak release—Dre Skull and Sizzla’s “Gone Too Far”—on his Mega Mega Mega 2009 Chart.
