Nadastrom Live at Ultra Music Festival

April 5th, 2012

Mixpak fam Nadastrom were in Miami for Ultra Music Festival last month, and thankfully had their live set recorded. This is one of those mixes where you may wish you were there and you won’t be able to find out what hardly any of the tracks are, but it’s worth it, packed full of tracks from the duo themselves, Schlachthofbronx and Munchi.

DJ Earl – Above and Beyond

April 4th, 2012

As the title suggests, Earl’s new EP has an expansive approach to the Juke sound that’s more melodic and nuanced than what you’d expect from a Tek House record. Above and Beyond is musical and almost introspective but still hinges on jittering chopped samples, sixteenth note pulses, glassy high-hat snaps and Earl’s penchant for textured synth melody. The LP also samples a wide selection of sounds not usually native to Juke tracks, “C’mon Back” being a highlight with its use of a sampled live jazz drum mix.

Alongside their own releases, they’ve also added their distinctive UK sound to remixes for Crookers, Drop The Lime and TEED to name but a few.

Their Mixpak FM runs through new big bass sounds, from house to UK funky, past jacked-out versions of Bill Biv Devoe and Whitney, with their own refixes thrown in.
