Mixpak FM: Zulu

fm12_041

Mixpak FM 041 is brought to you by 19 year old London producer Zulu, who has already racked up releases with Toddla T’s Girls Music, Zoo Music and Enchufada. As his name may suggest, Zulu takes influence from sounds from across the world, and his latest release, ‘The I.N.C.L.E.H. EP’ for Enchufada delights in afro-techno, kuduro and poly-rhythms that unite the sounds of the UK with contemporary African music.

His Mixpak FM takes us through UK funky, afrobeats, kuduro, juke, techno, dancehall remixes and some Wiley & Drake thrown in for party measure.

You can subscribe to Mixpak FM via iTunes, subscribe with an RSS reader from the Mixpak FM site or download this mix directly.

Dubbel Dutch’s second release for Mixpak, Self Help Riddim, drops next Tuesday, 23rd October. It’s the first in a series of singles leading up to the release of a full Self Help Riddims EP in 2013. This new body of work draws inspiration from dub and dancehall reggae, ethereal grime, and pop music of the African diaspora. In a climate dominated by sparse, dystopian tracks, Self Help Riddims EP represents a yearning for a warmer, more spiritual side of music.

To get the feel for the release, Dubbel Dutch has put together a minimix of tracks featuring 2 tracks from the EP, alongside exclusive edits and remixes; watch for the video soon.

We let remix-meister Emynd loose on ‘Get Gyal Easy’ and he’s delivered, in his own words, ‘some melodic trappy dancehall steez’ that’s up for the free download now. Check out the original produced by Dre Skull and released on Mixpak earlier this year, and the original remix package here.

A comment underneath Melé’s brand new remix of ‘Forget’ on YouTube reads ‘Genius use of the Star Wars theme’, which although wrong (there is no sample), is not a bad review of the remix – it flips the soulful original and laces it with majestic horns and a menacing bassline. Listen below and read our exclusive interview with Melé here.
