SEIJI 3

The third installment of the SEIJI series is here! The West London producer has thankfully fulfilled his promise of a release every 3 months and SEIJI 3 is a bouncing double A side, with ‘More of You’ and ‘Sticks’ (below). ‘More of You’ has an infectious vocal loop, sliced perfectly over a hybrid of beats that even has a hint of b-more to it. Listen to the funky house track on the flipside below and go grab the record here, out today. (And watch this space for some more Mixpak/Seiji goodness coming soon).

Ugly Moombahton

Remember back when Nadastrom dropped us their Mixpak FM podcast with that smashing version of Bubba Sparxxx’s ‘Ugly’? Well DJ Dice has done just the same, creating a blazing moombah version of the hip hop classic. Unfortunately the DLs have run out now, but maybe if you ask him kindly, he’ll re-up it.

I first heard of Brighton’s Murlo when I went trawling through forums looking for good bashment refixes. His refix of Busy’s ‘Wooeii Gal Wooeii’ sparked off an interest in his other productions including Summer Tusk (a hot rework of Sticky and Natalie Storm’s ‘Look Pon Me’). You may also recognize him from his recently released mix for Palm Out Sounds which has garnered a lot of attention, or his refix of Tek Buddy Gal featured here on the Mixpak blog.

How did you get started?

Well I started DJing at parties and fundraisers when I went down from the East Midlands to study in Brighton, around 4 years ago. That went down well so I started a club night called Angry Dance Party  which finished last year, quickly realising that i’m not so good at the promoting side of things, so I took to remixing and producing some of my own stuff.

Leftside Vs The World

It’s not really like we needed any more genre names to deal with, but Leftside’s self-coined ‘Teggae Reggae’ is a breath of fresh air to say the least. In the last few weeks, he has released 3 huge tunes that don’t seem to fit into the usual dancehall template. We’d already seen an inkling of it in last year’s ‘Phat Punani’, but now he’s really put the accelerator on.

For some reason, they’re labelling the biggest tune of the three, ‘Jump Up Around’, as the ‘Euromix’. It might be the first time any music labelled with ‘euro’ has actually been good. His new production style is a surefire way to show the world that dancehall is constantly crosspollinating, constantly exciting, and constantly keeping you moving.
