Mite + Ewalk – Body Tap

August 11th, 2011

Public access TV images of congas and claves coupled with glowstick synth stabs make up most of the intro for this housey 808 tune by Atlanta’s Mite and Ewalk. After the 1 minute mark, everyone’s favorite giant bass drums come bounding down the stairs in a rush for the floor as a steady zig zagging fuzz complete with trails weaves throughout the crowd. Syncopated toms shuffle all over a buried hypnotic kick matched with subconscious triangular glitters. Soon a warbled melody jumps in before introducing a moment of R&B love break down. Then some Dutchesque sirens build it all back up to the full pace for one last hype dance. B.YRSLF division will release this stomper when Winter comes around. Mite is also co-founder of ATL bass music label Embassy Recordings, along with Distal. Watch for their first vinyl to drop on Aug. 22nd, featuring their latest release by Clicks & Whistles. Travis Porter – Bring It Back

June 9th, 2011

ATL trio Travis Porter blew up the hip-hop radio dial last winter with their booming, ass-shaking jam, “Make It Rain.” Since then they’ve done collaborations with Tyga of Young Money and Big Sean of G.O.O.D. Music. Keep your eyes on these kids, they’re killing it right now with their bass heavy Southern sound.

DaVinci & SMKA – Slide Through

May 6th, 2011

DaVinci brings an energetic, versatile flow to this heavy beat by SMKA. The lyrics slide along at a quick pace, switching up every few bars in way that should hit the floor nicely. That’s combined with a variety of drums, some hard bass, and these X-Files style G-Funk synths. Throw the hook in and you got a track that could make some money, but is surprisingly free. It’s part of a mixtape called The 808 Experiment: Vol 3, in which the ATL producers get on the collabo tip with rappers from all over the country. There’s a lot of notable names on there like Freddie Gibbs, Skewby, and Young Scolla, so cop that for more. Check SWTBRDS for more Davinci.

Lil Scrappy “Look At Me” Out Now!

November 2nd, 2010

Lil Scrappy Look At Me

Atlanta-based rapper Lil Scrappy was an integral part of the crunk movement from the very beginning, appearing on seminal hits such as No Problem, Knuck If You Buck, Neva Eva, Gangsta Gangsta and Money In The Bank. On his new Dre Skull-produced single, Look At Me, Scrappy is back with a hard, existential club banger that’s sure to induce scrunch-face. To top it off, we got Pen and Pixel for the cover art.

Out now on iTunes, Juno and other fine digital retailers. Super limited edition vinyl coming soon. You already know about the t-shirt.

Please consider supporting this project. Respect!

Look At Me Teaser Video

October 26th, 2010

Dre Skull and Lil Scrappy

Next Tuesday, November 2nd, we’re dropping the Dre Skull-produced Lil Scrappy single Look At Me. In the meantime, we wanted to share some footage we shot when Dre went down to S-Line Studios in Atlanta to record. Scrappy wrote his hook to paper (as depicted), but—for the record—he did did not “write” his verses and instead built them on the microphone into Pro Tools. Maybe we can get Dre to elaborate on the process in a future post. Enjoy!

Mixpak in Tsugi Magazine

French magazine Tsugi just did a label spotlight on Mixpak and included a short interview with label-boss Dre Skull. Setting it off is a nice snap from Dre Skull’s recent trip to Atlanta to record with Lil Scrappy for an upcoming Mixpak release.
