T. Williams – Heartbeat (Mosca Remix)

November 3rd, 2010

The original is fantastic but I have become obsessed with the Mosca remix of T. Williams’ ‘Heartbeat’. I love the dichotomy between hard beats and soft vocals, I could talk about bassline refixes of US R&B singers for days. In this case, it’s Roc-A-Fella’s Terri Walker, whose voice hugs the deep rolling bass of Mosca’s remix. The tune is what i would imagine if Nina Simone teamed up with today’s broken beat producers. The record is out now.

Candy Shop Hits The Street

October 29th, 2010

After what seems like an eternity of waiting, DJ Pantha’s nasty UK Funky and Bassline hybrid is being released to merk the street this coming Monday. Pantha’s been tearing down the raves with ‘Candy Shops’ warping steel drums, nagging little bass pulses and scattershot toasting, so props to 1xtra’s DJ Q for signing up this banger and getting it off dubplate and into circulation. This is just another in a growing line of ultra tight production flooding out from the UK Midlands—London take note when Pantha spells it out “When you was sleeping… I said I was creeping…”

Voom Voom

July 19th, 2010

Not many people know who Kari Jess is yet but, with tunes like this, a change is gonna come. Get ready for the African lick, bike revs, a big bassline and some serious slackness.

Word to Mosca for the tip-off.

Introducing Melé

March 23rd, 2010

We’re proud to introduce our newest signing, Melé, a 17 year old producer and DJ from Merseyside, United Kingdom. He started DJing and producing when he was 13 years old and 2010 is sure to see him come into his own. From being picked as Toddla T’s one to watch for 2010 on Radio 1, to being signed for an EP on Sinden’s new imprint Grizzly, to being charted by globetrotters like Brodinski and being tapped to remix New Young Pony Club and The Count & Sinden, everything is in place for his meteoric rise. In both his DJ sets and his productions his sound floats between house, dubstep, funky and garage and his EP on Mixpak is no exception.

Check out this mix Melé did for the Truants blog and stay tuned for more information on his upcoming Mixpak release.

The Heatwave’s October Charts

October 14th, 2009

Shouts to The Heatwave blog for picking Vybz Kartel’s “Yuh Love” for their October charts. If you are checking on Dancehall or Funky or the intersection of the two genres then add The Heatwave to your feedreader. There are not enough blogs that go as deep. And speaking of deepness check out the “Funky Bashment” podcast that The Heatwave just turned in for the XLR8R podcast series…and if you check that tracklist closely, you might just spot an exclusive early appearance of an upcoming Mixpak release.

Assassin’s “Hand Ina Di Air” grabbed the number one spot on The Heatwave Dancehall charts (see the video above). Big track!!!

If Dancehall Is Dead, Follow Natalie Storm

October 12th, 2009

Check this great article about Natalie Storm and Dylan Powe on the “Letter From Jamica” blog. Natalie recently voiced a big song, “Look Pon Me,” that features her incredible catchy flow on a Funky riddim straight outta the UK. This will be included on a brand new EP dropping on Mixpak next month. Is the riddim produced by UK Garage bigwig Sticky? Yes. Did Dexplicit kill it on the remix? Indeed. Stay tuned as we do this one record at a time…
