This is that dirty dirty. That Dirty South… of France. Clapper Lark comes with a huge beat, bouncing high up into dark matter, while getting low in the gutter to get that money. Recorded deep underground amongst chanting cult members, pulsating synths escalate in intensity and speed, creating a sense of urgency. The track is free, but they’ve got an upcoming EP on Radio Los Santos. Like a sandwich artist stackin bread, green, guacamole, and cheese…
As we approach the end of the year we tend to look back at the best of the year, and for me one of the best mixtapes of the year was from Travis Porter. The Make it Rain guy’s Differenter 3 tape featured a heap of guest appearances, including Kelly Rowland, Big Sean and Meek Millz but one of the stand out tracks was the YG-assited ‘Yo Bitch’. From the Too Short sample to those craftily lazy keys, this song has it all.
Chi-town Juke veteran, Dj Earl has just dropped a fresh footwork track. “I Be Goin’ On ‘Em” has a deep house and soul feel and is available for free download at Earl’s Soundcloud.
Main Attrakionz are an Oakland-based rap duo who have been starting to garner a lot of atention lately with an inexhaustible stream of free mixtapes. “Swaggin Hard” is a cut from one of those tapes called Chandelier which was released in May. The duo’s mix of melodic hip-hop production and occasional triplet-time flow makes them sound a little like a new, swagged out Bone Thugs.
NYC’s Old Money has just dropped a fresh visual for their track “Dolla Van.” The duo goes hard on this dancehall tinged, hip-hop jam and their debut EP No. 1 Champion Sound (available on iTunes) is a must cop for anyone who’s looking to seriously motivate a party. For more of their global and eclectically heavy sound check out their Soundcloud or the video for their super hot track “Maroon on the Move.”
Knifeshow manages to cut a tale with sharp instrumentation more powerful than their vocal inspiration could ever recite by means of words alone. They wrote a strong narrative arch using big, quality sounds and developed an emotive, powerful atmosphere to get downright literary. It’s a free download. Knifeshow is a duo made up of Jack Inslee and Wreck Tech. The two throw a raw global club party in Bushwick, Brooklyn called Full Service. Wreck has hosted the Math + Science show at WNYU for the past five years and Inslee recently dropped a tuff juke house edit of “Marvin’s Room” by Drake. (Photo by Yasmine Chatila.)
