The third installment of the SEIJI series is here! The West London producer has thankfully fulfilled his promise of a release every 3 months and SEIJI 3 is a bouncing double A side, with ‘More of You’ and ‘Sticks’ (below). ‘More of You’ has an infectious vocal loop, sliced perfectly over a hybrid of beats that even has a hint of b-more to it. MIXPAK FM: DJ Nehpets

September 30th, 2010

Mixpak FM is back with Chicago’s legendary DJ Nehpets who describes this as a “history mix” and without a doubt it’s an amazing journey back through classic disco, house, funk and more. While you might know Nehpets from his Juke tracks (see here and here), you might not know that his first vinyl release dropped on Dance Mania when he was just 15 years old. Insider’s tip: on that release he was billed as “the backwards named Dee Jay Nehpets,” now try reading Nehpets backwards…okay, so we’re all up to speed? Back to the mix, there’s no tracklist at the moment, but anyone who wants to go for it in the comments will be praised and thanked. Take a 58 minute trip back…

Introducing Melé

March 23rd, 2010

We’re proud to introduce our newest signing, Melé, a 17 year old producer and DJ from Merseyside, United Kingdom. He started DJing and producing when he was 13 years old and 2010 is sure to see him come into his own. From being picked as Toddla T’s one to watch for 2010 on Radio 1, to being signed for an EP on Sinden’s new imprint Grizzly, to being charted by globetrotters like Brodinski and being tapped to remix New Young Pony Club and The Count & Sinden, everything is in place for his meteoric rise. In both his DJ sets and his productions his sound floats between house, dubstep, funky and garage and his EP on Mixpak is no exception.

Check out this mix Melé did for the Truants blog and stay tuned for more information on his upcoming Mixpak release.

Free MOOMBAHTON EP

March 8th, 2010

Dave Nada

Going against the grain of speeding up old songs into overhyped club-tracks on steroids, Dave Nada’s new project MOOMBAHTON transforms tropical and dutch house tracks to intoxicating slow burners by slowing down the BPM and stretching out the sound. The result sounds effortless and thoroughly enjoyable.

Also worth a read is this story about MOOMBAHTON originating in his cousin’s basement during a “skipping party” before it got busted by the cops. If it’s not enough to convince you that Dave Nada is one decent dude, would the fact that he’s giving away a five track EP of Sidney Samson & Afrojack re-edits do it for you? Mixpak Interview Series: Renaissance Man

December 23rd, 2009

Renaissance Man

They’re everything most men wish they could be: dapper, sophisticated, modern, and really, REALLY good at making a new genre of house music that has the world enthralled, ecstatic and confused, all at the same time. They’re also secretly a new breed of super-human warriors who can survive being submerged in lava and can go weeks without sleep. Okay, so the last part wasn’t true, but geeez, Renaissance Man have one of the most impressive work ethics I’ve heard of in years.

They describe themselves as “a platform for contemporary dance music” and 2009 saw a rush of new users embrace the platform. With an onslaught of remixes for Turbo, Kitsune, several classy bootcuts, and EPs on Dubsided and Sound Pellegrino, Renaissance Man arrived in style.

Scandinavian upstarts Martti (Jaxxon) and Ville (Downtown) took some time while they were in the studio to talk about the resurgance of open minded dance music. [Note: this interview took place several months back, apologies for our delay in posting.]

Brendan: What are some of your first memories and experiences of house music?

Jaxxon: The city where I used to live in Finland when I was younger called Turku had a very vibrant house scene in the 90′s. The whole late 90′s deep house thing hit me hard.

Downtown: Yeah, same here. I started feeling it in the late 90s.

Jaxxon: Actually we are now working in the studio one of the O.G Finnish house guys, Sasse, aka Freestyle Man in Berlin.

Renaissance Man Mix For Sixpack France

September 2nd, 2009

Finnish duo Ville and Martti are probably better known to you as Renaissance Man and they’ve made it their mission to bring House music back in a gigantic, fresh way for 2009. In the last six months, they have racked up some stellar releases on Dubsided, Kitsune and Sound Pellegrino, helping revitalize a genre that was hurting for new sounds.

We’ve tapped Renaissance Man to remix Sissy Nobby’s upcoming Mixpak release “Lay Me Down” which should be out by late October. You’ll be hearing much more about Nobby in coming months, but there’s an awesome introduction to the New Orleans Sissy Bounce genre in this XLR8R article. If you want to hear a overview of the genre, I’d advise Dre Skull’s excellent Sissy Bounce Mix for XLR8R.

More details about the Nobby release coming soon, but listen to this jackin’ house mix Renaissance Man did for Sixpack France which they filled with exclusive Renaissance Man bootcuts and re-edits, including a sneak peak of their forthcoming Sissy Nobby remix . Sixpack is also offering an exclusive Renaissance Man inspired t-shirt which you can grab here! Update: I have one, and it is awesome.
