Mixpak FM: Jubilee

July 15th, 2011

Mixpak 015 is brought to you by Jubilee, NYC bass queen who is one half of the Nightshifters label, hosts her own show, Fireworks, on Brooklyn radio, forms part of production duo Bassanovva with Grahmzilla, has collaborated with the likes of Star Eyes and Udachi, and runs parties like Flashing Lights, maybe the first rave to ever have happened in a Chinese restaurant.

We asked her to add a Mixpak FM podcast to her incredible list of multi-tasking and she delivered this party mix that bounces from Cooly G to Kelly Rowland. Close your eyes and imagine you’re wiling out in a dim sum joint.

You can subscribe to Mixpak FM via iTunes, subscribe with an RSS reader from the Mixpak FM site or download this mix directly.

Jubilee’s New Show on Brooklyn Radio

March 30th, 2011

Jubilee has started a fresh new show on Brooklyn Radio, Fireworks:

Brooklyn’s bass sweetheart curates a fun mix that connects the dots between house, electro, UK funky, grime, Baltimore club, dubstep,hip-hop, kuduro, cumbia, and more, drawing a thread between NYC, Miami, London, Paris, Brazil, and points beyond. Jubilee’s close connection to DJ/producers worldwide means plenty of exclusive tracks and world premieres, as well as interviews and guest sets from the hottest up-and-coming DJs on the planet.

Sensing a void of intelligent dance music programming on American radio, and inspired by stations in other parts of the world including BBC Radio One, FBI Radio, Triple J and Rinse FM, Jubilee sees Fireworks as an outlet to showcase the wealth and depth of exciting music being created in NYC and beyond.

Her first ever show featured an exclusive from Mixpak, the Justin Martin remix of Lil Scrappy’s ‘Look At Me’ (the second track in). Listen here.

Mixpak Interview Series: Jubilee

October 5th, 2009

jess jubilee

Jess Jubilee is something of a genre-busting powerhouse. Not only did she grow up on the sounds of Miami Bass, Breaks and Grime, but as one of New York’s most eclectic, exciting and ear-splitting DJs, she’s channeled it into a new genre all of her own. You could call it “jump up and down like you’ve never partied before when you hear it” music, you could call it what you get when you put bass heavy electro and happy hardcore into a blender and mix it with a forty of malt liquor. Now, in addition to serving as part of the explosive Flashing Lights party coming out of NY, a blogger for Trash Menagerie, Production Manager at famed nightclub Studio B, Jess has also just put out the straight-fire “Paypur EP” with colleague Udachi, which you can and absolutely should support on Beatport HERE. I talked to Jess a bit about booty bass, where the hell the music industry is going, bad advice, badmovies, and whether or not aliens are going to stop stealing her weed anytime soon. Read on!

Jubilee & Udachi – Paypur (320, direct link)

Interview – Brendan Arnott (my text in bold)

Mixpak: You’ve got an amazing new release on Nightshifters, and I was wondering if you could break down the backstory to the “Smoke Rings” video for us, whether aliens stealing your weed has been a big problem in your personal life?

Jubilee: I think we are addressing a common problem that no one ever wants to speak up about. After the video and song came out we received several messages saying “that happens to YOU too?”. Our whole lives we thought it was just us.
