Invasion of the Mysteron Killer Sounds

May 23rd, 2011

There are an incredible 35 tracks on this new compilation, Invasion of the Mysteron Killer Sounds, a collaboration between The Bug aka Kevin Martin and Soul Jazz Records‘ Stuart Baker, set for release on the 16th of June. The main tenet of the collection simply seems to be genre-busting, bass-heavy innovative riddims, be they from Jamaica, the UK or beyond, past, present and almost always futurist. The four LP collection is kinda like a spider diagram of how digital dancehall and dub affected some of today’s producers, showing both the subtle and the obvious links in between King Jammy and Diplo, Prince Jazzbo and Matt Shadetek. In case that wasn’t geeky and amazing enough already, there’s also a graphic novel that comes with it, which they describe as ‘a science-fiction vision of the future of digital music, featuring King Tubby, Steely and Clevie, Jammy, Jazzbo, complete with Alien Sound Lord Abductors, Aural Freedom Fighters and Digi-Dub Voyagers!’ Nuts.

Check it out for yourselves at Soul Jazz.

Black Ryno – Nuh Tek Talk (Matt Shadetek Remix)

December 2nd, 2010

Dutty Artz producer Matt Shadetek is about to drop a banging new EP, ‘Dutty House’, which is exactly what it says on the tin. To celebrate, he’s giving away this big remix of Black Ryno‘s ‘Nuh Tek Talk’ (which was originally on Chimney’s Death Row Riddim). The tune keeps the sweet high pitch of BR and adds some huge grimey bass. If this is a taste of the EP, then things are looking good. ‘Dutty House’ releases on Juno on December 7th; watch the Dutty Artz website for updates.

Matt Shadetek – Flowers

Matt Shadetek’s solo instrumental album came out last week and it features some impressive production that explores the intersections of UK garage, funky and the low end of the sound spectrum. The world needs more full length albums in these genre lanes, so do your part by supporting Matt Shadetek’s Flowers LP now. If you need any convincing, listen to Matt Shadetek’s recent XLR8R podcast which features dancehall, UK funky, grime and a bunch of his own productions.
