Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team Release Party

July 26th, 2011

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team celebrate the release of ‘Bassface’ and ‘Pretty Pretty Good’ tomorrow night at Chez Moune in Paris, with Mixpaker Koyote on the line-up. Check the Facebook event details here.

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team, the almighty alliance formed by Sound Pellegrino founders Orgasmic and Teki Latex are back. With countless mixes, remixes for L-Vis 1990 (Mad Decent) and Mikix The Cat (Abracada) under their belt, not to mention a myriad of separate and common releases under the TTC and Institubes flags, and their weekly show The Sound Pellegrino Podcast, they are ready to unleash their first EP under the Thermal Team moniker. These two have known each other for more than 15 years now and been in love with all forward-thinking movements and sub-subgenres of rap, electronica and dance they’ve witnessed blossoming in the past decade and more.

“Bassface” takes us back to the days of Miami and Atlanta Bass music, made for the rollerskating rink, but with an added macabre 808 trap feel and venomous digi-medieval undertones. So So Death Bass Allstars.

“Pretty Pretty Good” is an obvious nod to the infamous HBO cult sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm, as Teki immortalises Larry David’s innate polygraph technique into a proper dance. Yes. Someone had to.

Mixpak Interview Series: Harvard Bass

November 19th, 2009

Harvard Bass

Harvard Bass has been making a name for himself using minimal house inspired building blocks to build catchy, layered tracks with substance. Hot off the heels of his Sound Pellegrino debut EP have come an unrelenting series of remixes for Drop The Lime, The Toxic Avenger, Mom & Dad, Sinden, Acid Girls and Teki Latex.

Even though he was writing everything to me from his iPhone, and, despite the fact that my internet kept spontanously signing off (my apartment may be haunted), I got a chance to chat with Victor and get a look into where he’s at and where he’s headed next.

Interview by Brendan Arnott, my text in bold.

When you were growing up, what were your big musical influences?

My musical influences when I was young spread a bunch of varieties. It moved from Weezer  to Tupac to The Beatles. But in the house scene I began to listen to a lot of Mark Farina mixes, I was maybe around 13 when I got into dance music.

You say Weezer are one of your influences… they just did a song with Little Wayne, how do you feel about that?

I think it’s awesome that different genres can work together like that.

“Crying On The Dancefloor”

October 28th, 2009

l-vis

Hot on the heels of a remix for the elusive, multi-culturally minded Gucci Vump (what the hell is a vump, anyway?), a recent “tweet” from East London powerhouse L-Vis 1990 provides us with a cryptic teaser about an upcoming surefire dancefloor destroyer. From the L-Vis 1990 twitter:

You thought my gucci remix was emotional.. Hold tight for my sissy nobby remix, people were cying on the dance floor last tune tonight ;)

For more info on what exactly L-Vis is referring to, keep your position locked on the Mixpak blog, exciting news to come. In the meantime, grab a copy of Christian Martin’s remix of the A-side off his new digital single on Sound Pellegrino (I guess everything on a digital single’s an A-side, right?).
