Sticky, whose immense Jumeirah Riddim was released on Mixpak, has given us an exclusive download of ‘Bandolero’, on the follow up to the riddim: the Jumeirah Riddim Sequel. Maxwell D borrows a flow from Junior Demus, using the old deejay style to murder the tune. Make sure you download Mad Max Vol 1 on the 19th of December.

Maxwell D – Bandolero (Jumeirah II Riddim)

It’s one of my favourite things when a new Moombahton release hits the internet. It’s even better when there’s something on there by The Father Of Moombahton himself, a man better known as Dave Nada.  Tittsworth and Ayres‘ label, T&A Records, has been inundating us with dope releases lately, including an EP by Nada called Kick Out The Jams, the already legendary Moombahton EP which includes the screwed-down I-shake-my-ass edit of ‘Riverside’ and his Punk Rock Latino EP. The time for more tropical substance by the hand of Nada has arrived and T&A have now put out a free EP with a selection of edits, remixes and reworks by Nada and comrade Nordstrom called the Rum & Coke EP.  There’s even a Moombahton edit on there of Sticky & Natalie Storm’s ‘Look Pon Me’, released on Mixpak! Dave Nada took the track, slowed it down, added some sweet percussion, chopped up the vocals, added his magical recipe to the entity and the result is madly different from the original. I love it. The funky bashment tip is running hard in Jamaica, with Sticky’s ‘Jumeirah’ even making it onto Assassin’s mad mixtape last month. Leftside’s ‘Dem Gyal Deh’ has been ripping the dancefloor for a few weeks, with its killer brass and straight-up funky bassline produced by the man himself.  Lock in around 1:24 for some crazy Leftside rhymes.

Leftside has been dropping the dancehall bombs left, right and center in the last few months. His latest release on KeepLeft Records, ‘Phat Punani’ (seems he has some obsession, having released a track with the exact same name about a year ago) leaves the funky aside for a bona fide minimalist dancehall bassline. Try not to wheel this one, I dare you.

Back in April, we gave you a heads up on the upcoming Kode9 DJ Kicks compilation and with the release fast approaching, we have a nice 15 minute preview mix which you can listen to here.

Hyberdub boss Kode9 has a new compilation for the DJ-Kicks series which he describes as “just a snapshot of my DJ sets from the first half of 2010.” He’s included two tracks from Mixpak, Sticky’s “Jumeirah Riddim Sequel” and Sticky and Natalie Storm’s “Look Pon Me.” Kode9 elaborates,

[The mix is] definitely not an exploration of my musical heritage, but it’s not all new stuff. It probably signifies something about my relationship to dubstep that the mix only has a few dubstep tunes in it… Unfortunately, I fear some listeners, because of my background, will think that all the tracks are just mutations of dubstep.

!K7 will release Kode9′s DJ-Kicks on June 22nd, 2010.

The big news these days at Mixpak headquarters is the growing success of Sticky and Natalie Storm’s single “Look Pon Me.” In the UK, the Look Pon Me video has been added to the official playlist on MTV receiving over 35 plays in the last few weeks. That gives Natalie the distinction of being only the second Caribbean artist currently playlisted by MTV UK (maybe you’ve heard of the other…Rhianna?). Not bad exposure for a small label like Mixpak and, if anything, it speaks to how good this track is.

Anyhow, with all the success, we’ve had a number of folks ask about the “Look Pon Me” acapella and after talking with the lawyers and getting the green light, we’ve decided give you the chance to remix this UK-Funky-meets-Jamaica hit.

3. Name your remix Natalie Storm – Look Pon Me (with your remixer name) and then upload your remix to the Mixpak Sound Cloud drop box, adding “Look Pon Me Remix Contest” in the tags.
