Flatlands Remix Project

October 13th, 2011

After the huge release of the Flatlands Riddim earlier this year, NYC’s Federation Sound have given the whole project the remix treatment. Every corner is covered: Moombahton from Emynd, UK Funky from The Heatwave and uptempo dancefloor offerings from newbie Noah Issa, Nick Catchdubs and Blackhart, and personal favourite from Lighters Up (Kenny Meez & Jah T Jr) who flip the original into a full-on, bassed-up bashment track. They’re giving up Sickhead’s remix of Ward 21′s ‘Go Easy’ before the full release drops on October 18th:

Heatwave presents Showtime!

June 7th, 2011

On the 15th of June, London will witness something that hasn’t happened for a long time. A live stage show featuring some of the biggest MC’s all sharing the stage and passing the mic over dancehall riddims From Wiley (who seems determined to attend all his live shows this year), General Levy, Glamma Kid, Skibadee, Asher Senator, Lady Chann, Riko Dan, Stush, Mr Williamz, Lady Leshurr, YT, Stylo G, Serocee and Rubi Dan. I personally can’t wait to see Lady Leshurr as she really is one of the best right now in the UK.

You can grab tickets here and go download Riko Dan’s ‘Mind How You Talk’ right here to get warmed up.

Rolling In The Heat

May 10th, 2011

The Heatwave have delivered yet another impressive blend, and this time it’s a refix of a refix – taking Jamie XX’s dancehall-inspired remix of Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’. As if Adele over a clapping dancehall beat reminiscent of the Diwali riddim wasn’t already enough, The Heatwave supply a huge roster of vocals on their version, as always – Mr Lexx, Cecile, Timberlee (and even a snippet of ‘Iko Iko’). This one is sure to heat up the dance.

The mp3 of the tune will be given away for free on their site this week.

Also, be sure to check out their latest podcast from their weekly Rinse FM radio show, where they played ‘Go Go Wine’ for the first time. ‘That’s what you call a bullet’.

25 Years of Dancehall

March 28th, 2010

The Heatwave is back at it a with a big mix commemorating 25 years of digital dancehall. This is a must listen history lesson.

Last month marked the 25th anniversary of the day that Wayne Smith’s Under Me Sleng Teng was first played in a dance. Tuesday 23rd February to be exact.

To celebrate the 25th birthday of digital dancehall we looked back over the last quarter century of this brilliant music and had a quick party on our Rinse FM show. It was mad to look at how things have developed over two and a half decades.

The Heatwave’s October Charts

October 14th, 2009

Shouts to The Heatwave blog for picking Vybz Kartel’s “Yuh Love” for their October charts. If you are checking on Dancehall or Funky or the intersection of the two genres then add The Heatwave to your feedreader. There are not enough blogs that go as deep. And speaking of deepness check out the “Funky Bashment” podcast that The Heatwave just turned in for the XLR8R podcast series…and if you check that tracklist closely, you might just spot an exclusive early appearance of an upcoming Mixpak release.

Assassin’s “Hand Ina Di Air” grabbed the number one spot on The Heatwave Dancehall charts (see the video above). Big track!!!
